Surf Safety for New Australians
Together with the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Recreational Fishing Alliance NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW will host a fishing and water safety information workshop for The Hills Holroyd Parramatta Migrant Resource Centre.
Up to fifty managers from the Migrant Resource Centre as well as community leaders and volunteers from a number of non-English speaking backgrounds will attend the workshop at North Steyne SLSC on Thursday 28 February.
The aim of the workshop is to provide participants with multilingual information on rock fishing and beach safety which they can then take back to their communities.
Dr. Dean Dudley, Director of Education for Surf Life Saving NSW said, “By engaging with migrant groups and having a very specific message to deliver, we hope to not only save lives but break down barriers to participation.
“We are strong advocates that everyone can enjoy the beach if they have the knowledge and experience to do it safely,” said Dudley.
