Surfer Injured in Shark Attack
A 36 year old man has been injured in a possible shark attack at Lighthouse Beach, Port Macquarie this afternoon.
At 5pm the Surf Rescue Emergency Response system was activated by Police to respond to reports of a body boarder involved in a shark attack. A Mid North Coast Branch Duty Officer attended the scene where the man was being administered first aid by fellow surfers and members of the public. He has been transported to hospital.
In consultation with Port Macquarie Hastings Council and Police, Surf Life Saving has closed all beaches in the region for a 24 hour period. Signs have been erected and people are being urged to stay out of the water until further notice.
The extent of the man's injuries are unknown, however the thoughts of the local surf lifesaving community are with his family and friends at this time.
Experts from the Department of Primary Industries will investigate the incident and Surf Life Saving will respond to any requests for assistance.
