Hosting the 2017 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships has stoked the competitive fire of Swansea Belmont and its members with the club hopeful of increased participation particularly in the Masters next season.

It was a successful Masters carnival for this year’s hosts with Swansea Belmont finishing the two-day competition in a highly impressive 9th spot overall.

The small contingent of 25 punched well above their weight winning medals and taking full advantage of their inside knowledge of the beach.

Joshua Blair a member of the gold medal winning 130 Years Taplin team said there was a strong sense of culture among the group.

“I think once we were announced as hosts last season it excited a lot of us who used to be competitive in the opens and gave us the motivation to compete at Masters.

“We’re all going to keep training, get fitter, enter the team events and hopefully have more entries in the individual events next year to keep that club spirit going forward.

With the conditions a hot topic over the course of the competition it seems appropriate to ask how they’re shaping up from someone who has first-hand experience of them.

“They’ve definitely been the biggest swells we have seen this season and stronger than we saw at Age,” Joshua Blair said.
