In the future scientists wanting to develop the ideal water athlete would probably create someone very close to Paul Lemmon as the Terrigal Surf Lifesaver celebrated another successful season as the Masters Athlete of the Year.

Paul made history at The Aussies becoming the first Masters competitor to win an individual event ten times in succession when he took out the Surf Race.

He also continued his dominance in the 40/49 Ironman earning his 9th gold medal in ten years – his one “off” season resulted in silver.

He continued to perform strongly at the State Championships doing enough to earn 7 medals (including 3 gold) in what was a weather-interrupted event.

At the Central Coast Championships it rained gold for the experience competitor who won every event he contested.

The pool also proved to be happy hunting ground throughout the season.

After an impressive State Campaign he travelled north to Queensland for The Australian titles where he earned another 7 medals including breaking the world record in the 45-49 Mannequin Carry race.

In addition to his races he loves helping out his club mates and can more than hold his own at open level competition.

In his spare time he enjoys coaching the next generation of surf sport competitors instilling in them a lifelong respect of the ocean and passing on his knowledge acquired over a lifetime in the water. He was also recently made a Life Member of Central Coast Branch.

The 2017 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence are proudly presented by Stramit Building Products. Over 300 of Surf Life Saving’s most outstanding lifesavers, athletes, educators, coaches, and administrators from around the state gathered at Sydney’s iconic The Hilton Hotel to celebrate the season that was.
