Three People Rescued Near Port Kembla
Three people have been rescued in a joint response near 5 Islands at Port Kembla after their boat capsized.
The Surf Life Saving NSW State Operations Centre received a call through the Emergency Response System from Marine Area Command (Water Police) that they had reports of a capsized vessel.
The State Ops Centre quickly tasked Wollongong City Lifeguards who soon spotted the three people standing on top of some rocks while their vessel sunk nearby.
Unfortunately due to the rocks, Lifeguard jet-skis were unable to perform the pickup and the Ambulance Helicopter winched the three of them to safety.
SLSNSW Lifesaving Manager, Andy Kent, praised all the agencies for the fast joint response.
“This operation is a fantastic example of why the Emergency Response System is so important and effective. The fast and professional response from all the agencies involved today may well have prevented a tragedy,” said Mr Kent.
