#DRONES // The NSW Government`s Shark Management Program is expanding, with extended hours for drone shark surveillance beginning tomorrow, 1 September 2026.

As daylight hours increase, drones will now operate from 6:15am to 5:00pm, ensuring full daylight coverage.

Drone flying hours change throughout the year in line with seasonal daylight. We encourage beachgoers, clubs and local communities to familiarise themselves with the 2026/27 drone flying schedule.

It`s all part of the NSW Government`s $120 million investment into shark management, which saw a major scale up of drone coverage in July this year, across beaches in Sydney and along the NSW coastline.

#AOE26 // The 2026 NSW Surf Lifesaver of the Year is Dominic Winkle from Clovelly SLSC! 🌟

@dom_winkle is a proactive and well-rounded lifesaver who leads from the front as Clovelly’s Club Captain, as well as a trainer and assessor. He has strengthened patrol communication, improved management of lifesaving equipment and created opportunities for members to gain experience at different beaches and in different conditions. Dominic’s supportive and adaptable leadership has helped build lifesaving capability at Club, Branch and State level.

What a well-rounded and deserving lifesaver 👏

#AOE26 // Congratulations to Callum Mercer, the NSW Volunteer of the Year for 2026 🌟

Callum Mercer’s focus on youth membership has delivered remarkable results at Birubi Point, with youth retention doubling and youth patrol hours increasing by 700 per cent this season. He encourages leadership, teamwork, fundraising and service while also promoting inclusion and building stronger community relationships. As a trainer and community advocate, Callum is helping create a stronger, more sustainable club and a valuable blueprint for keeping Nippers engaged in lifesaving.

You`re a weapon, Callum. Well done on this huge achievement!

#AOE26 // Congratulations to Jemma Smith, the NSW Athlete of the Year for 2026 🌟

Jemma is a three-time NSW Youth Athlete of the year and this is her SECOND NSW Athlete of the Year title!

Jemma has delivered an extraordinary season, cementing her place as one of the country’s leading surf athletes. At the 2026 Australian Championships, she claimed an incredible five national titles – Open Champion Lifesaver, Patrol Competition, Single Ski, Ski Relay, Board Relay AND was named Female Athlete of the Carnival. She also secured five NSW titles and three Branch titles.

Jemma’s impact extends far beyond her own results. A respected leader, coach and mentor, she generously invests in the success of others – supporting junior athletes and coaches across multiple clubs. Jemma combines elite performance with humility, generosity and leadership, making her an outstanding role model and a truly deserving Athlete of the Year.

#AOE26 // Congratulations to Shellharbour SLSC, winners of the Club of the Year for 2026 🌟

Shellharbour has built a whole-of-club culture around “One Club. One Goal” bringing lifesaving, education, youth development and community engagement together with real purpose. The club has paired strong governance and inclusive pathways with a clear focus on building the capability its growing community will need. The judging panel saw Shellharbour as a complete, future-ready model of a modern surf lifesaving club, with culture, capability and community connection all working hand in hand.

A remarkable achievement and a well-deserved recognition of an outstanding year!
