#BEACHSTORMERS // More racing. More chances. @beachstormers is back ⚡

Beach Sprints, Beach Flags and Distance Runs are heading to beaches across NSW for the 2026/27 series, with racing for U13, Youth (U14/U15), U17, Open and Masters competitors.

Expect round-robin sprints and selected distance events for more chances to race, varied course lengths to keep you on your toes, and the familiar knockout action of Beach Flags 🙌

• Rd 3: 12 Dec – Avoca Beach

#VOLUNTEERING // Young voices helping shape the future of SLSNSW 🔴🟡

What a great day at the Young Persons Emergency Volunteering Forum at NSW Rural Fire Service Headquarters, where our young lifesavers joined volunteers from SES, Marine Rescue, Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Ministers Jihad Dib and Rose Jackson attended alongside Commissioners and CEOs from the participating agencies, hearing directly from young people about their experiences and ideas for the future of emergency volunteering.

The forum gave the NSW Premier’s Department an opportunity to better understand youth engagement across emergency services, with plenty of information and ideas shared about how to support the next generation.

SLSNSW has the largest youth engagement across all emergency services, and we’re incredibly proud of our young members and their involvement across so many aspects of Surf Life Saving. Our representatives came from across the state, with strong representation across regions, genders and age groups.

Their enthusiasm, energy and commitment were inspiring. If these young volunteers are the future of looking after NSW communities, we’re in great hands! 👏

#WEEKENDOFSURF // The faces of the first carnival of the season say it all!

The Forster Weekend of Surf is into its 29th year, with 42 clubs and 800 competitors lining up on the Lower North Coast to race.

#DRONES // In just three months, SLSNSW drone pilot numbers have DOUBLED as we build a cohort of capable, conscientious pilots across the state to deliver crucial shark surveillance through the NSW Government`s uplifted Shark Management Program.

That`s almost 500 pilots we`re equipping with critical skills through training and professional development opportunities such as first aid, shark identification and emergency response.

While drone pilots DO NOT carry out aquatic rescues, these skills help support beach safety along our coastline.

#GONEFISHING // The sun was out for another Rock Fishing Safety Workshop in Kurnell over the weekend 🎣

Participants took part in hands-on sessions covering coastal conditions, essential safety equipment, safe rock fishing practices and what to do in an emergency, including a mock rescue demonstration.

The free workshops are continuing across NSW, with rock fishing approved lifejackets provided to adult participants.

#VOLUNTEERS // Member Recognition

SLSNSW President Elissa Hancock was proud to attend Government House this weekend as David Rope, Brett Harrod, Paul Lemmon and Stuart Harvey received their King’s Birthday Honours medals, while the late Albert Maxwell’s award was accepted by his wife and daughter in honour of his legacy.

David, Far North Coast Branch Director of Lifesaving and a @cudgenheadland.slsc member, received an Emergency Services Medal for his operational leadership and decades of service.

Brett, a SLSNSW Life Member and former President of SLSNSW, Central Coast Branch and @uminaslsc , received an AM for significant service to Surf Life Saving and the community.

Paul, of @terrigalslsc , received an OAM in recognition of his service to, and achievements in, surf sports.

Stuart, an @avocabeachslsc stalwart and one of SLSNSW’s first State Duty Officers, received an Emergency Services Medal for his outstanding contribution to emergency management, education and frontline lifesaving.

The late Albert Maxwell, of @woolgoolgaslsc , was recognised with an OAM for his sustained and conspicuous service to lifesaving over many years.

This morning at Maroubra SLSC, the nippers helped put the red and yellow flags back in the sand to mark the start of the 2026/27 patrol season.

A pretty special moment for the next generation of lifesavers 🫡

#RAISINGTHEFLAGS // NSW, we’re back on patrol! 🔴🟡

For the next seven months, our volunteers will be back on patrol, helping keep beachgoers safe.
Remember: swim between the red and yellow flags and follow the advice of lifesavers and lifeguards. If our lifesavers can’t see you, they can’t save you!
