Introducing the new Beach & Coastal Safety Resource Hub! Your place for everything beach and coastal safety related.
The Hub, has been designed with our diverse communities in mind and the needs of each of these individual and unique communities. The hub provides a fun, engaging and interactive space to learn about beach and coastal safety.
Our partners
SLSNSW thanks all its partners for their ongoing and generous support. It is the contribution of all partners that allows us to achieve our mission.
#ROCKFISHING // We’re continuing to address preventable rock fishing and rock platform-related drowning with the establishment of a trial, FREE Life Jacket Library.
We’re stoked to be working with @randwickcouncil to have life jackets available to be borrowed from the Des Renford Leisure Centre in Maroubra - located just minutes from dozens of well-known rock fishing blackspots at La Perouse, Little Bay, Maroubra and Malabar.
It’s a simple system that makes accessing vital safety gear easier. We know that life jackets save lives, so all rock fishers, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to make use of this FREE resource and stay safe while enjoying one of Australia’s most loved pastimes.

#SURFSPORTS // U19s is one of the hottest and most competitive divisions in our sport. At this year’s Aussies we saw the fire in the U19 Females. This group is not only pushing eachother to be faster, stronger and more fierce but they’re also the best of mates. Absolutely loved watching this board race and the push and pull between @katylararees from @swanseabelmont and @isabellatatee from @cudgenheadland.slsc 🔥🔥🔥

#MYSURFLIFE // Sometimes the chance comes up to travel with your patrol or club mates to help out at another beach and it’s always a great experience. Recently, @evansheadcasinoslsc took a road trip down the coast 143km to @redrockcorindislsc to assist with patrolling over the school holiday period 👏👏👏. If you ever get the chance to travel with your patrol, jump on it. You see new beaches from new perspective and learn so much, plus who doesn’t love a road trip!?

#MUMSOFSLSNSW // Do you know what the Nipperettes were? Kerry Armstrong-Smith was in the first group of them after joining @uminaslsc in the Under 4’s, and this year after more then 50 years of service at one club, she was inducted as a Surf Life Saving Australia Masters Legend with her awe-inspiring results including winning the very first Australian Open Champion Lifesaver event in 2000.
Kerry is just one of the thousands of incredible mums of Surf Life Saving NSW and today we wanted to share the amazing milestones she’s celebrated this year. First and foremost, she’s the mum to coach Bronte and athlete Jemma who have been by her side on the sand since they were born.
“They’ve come down to patrol since day dot and they learned early on it’s a lifestyle,” she says. “Surf Life Saving has always been about family and to watch them grow up around the beach and have the same love and passion for it has been amazing.”
And even though all three have always been competitive Kerry says that the emphasis was always on having fun, showing up, and most importantly being together.
“From the start it’s always been about having fun, never an emphasis on winning it’s about having fun, training, improving skills and knowing how to keep themselves and others safe.”
Kerry says what being part of a club gives you as a parent, is time with your kids, and that’s her message to any mums out there thinking about getting involved with a club.
“It’s one of those things that brings you together, you do a lot together, water safety, patrol, travel, training, competing.”
In fact, Kerry says “If the Box is working today, Bronte and I will be out there catching waves together for Mother’s Day.”

We love them all. Happy Mothers Day to all the mums of Surf Life Saving NSW. ...

Sonny talked about the life skills being part of the Surf Life Saving community brings and the values it instills. “Without a little bit of hard work, there’s no growth,” he says about getting out in the surf and encouraging his kids to all give it everything they’ve got.

On behalf of our 85,000 members, Surf Life Saving NSW extends its thoughts and support to our Marine Rescue NSW colleagues after last night’s tragic incident in the line of duty on the Far North Coast.Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.
Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.
Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.
Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.
“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.
“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.
“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
