Our partners
SLSNSW thanks all its partners for their ongoing and generous support. It is the contribution of all partners that allows us to achieve our mission.
#JANUARY26 // Today at Circular Quay, our volunteer lifesavers shared important surf safety messages as part of the city’s activities. We were proud to engage with the community and provide information on staying safe at the beach. As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusion and respect, we also took time to reflect on the significance of this day for all Australians.

#BEACHSAFETY // With hot weather and big crowds expected along the NSW coastline this long weekend, surf lifesavers are urging everyone heading to the beach to put safety first.
When heat, holidays and large numbers of beachgoers combine, the coastal drowning risk increases more than threefold, and it rises again during school holidays. This makes the coming days one of the highest risk periods of the year.
Following several shark incidents this week, drone patrols, rescue crews and volunteer lifesavers will be out in force across the state. Every drowning recorded so far this summer has occurred at an unpatrolled location or outside patrol hours.
• Visit a patrolled beach and only swim between the red and yellow flags
• Supervise children closely
• Avoid remote or unpatrolled spots
• Stay out of the water if you have been drinking
• Check BeachSafe for patrol times and conditions
• Download SharkSmart for drone patrol locations and safety updates
Thank you to our volunteers who will be working across the long weekend to keep beachgoers safe. Enjoy the break and look after each other on the sand and in the surf.

#COUNTRYCHAMPS26 // Safety Update for Country Championships Competitors and Families.
As we prepare to welcome everyone to South West Rocks SLSC for the 2026 NSW Country Championships, we want to acknowledge the community concern around recent shark activity along the NSW coastline.
The safety of our competitors, officials and spectators remains our highest priority.
Alongside our standard water safety procedures, Surf Life Saving NSW has introduced several additional measures for this year’s event, including:
- Two UAVs providing continuous aerial surveillance during all water events, in addition to the local - UAV operating as part of the SLSNSW/DPIRD shark surveillance program
- Extended UAV operating hours from 6:00am daily to assess conditions before warm‑ups
- A minimum of four IRBs on the water from the start of warm‑ups
- Marine Rescue NSW patrolling offshore
- NSW Maritime conducting regular patrols around the competition area
- The local Marine Rescue base operating from 6:00am–6:00pm for increased monitoring
- Competition courses set to minimum allowable distances to reduce time in the water
- These measures work alongside our established safety frameworks to ensure the highest level of protection for all participants.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to deliver a safe and successful championship.

Today is a National Day of Mourning, a time for our community to pause and honour the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. We also recognise the extraordinary bravery of the first responders who stepped forward in the face of tragedy.
We encourage Surf Life Saving NSW members to take part in this moment of reflection by observing a minute of silence at 7:01pm (AEDT), spending time with family, friends and people of all faiths and backgrounds, and placing a candle on your doorstep or windowsill as a symbol of solidarity with the Jewish community. You may also choose to carry out a good deed or mitzvah in honour of Bondi.
Light will win.

#HAZARDOUSSURF // Hazardous surf alert for parts of NSW.
Large, powerful surf is set to impact beaches from Sydney to the Victorian border over the coming days, with dangerous conditions already affecting the Illawarra, Batemans Bay and Eden coasts.
A warning remains in place, and from today the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney will also be impacted. If the beach is closed or the ocean looks rough, please stay out of the water. These conditions make it harder and more dangerous for lifesavers to respond quickly so the safest choice is to avoid the coastline altogether.
Rock fishers are a key concern this weekend, with rock platforms becoming extremely risky in big surf. One unexpected wave can be life‑threatening.
Rock Fishing Safety Advice:
• Wear a lifejacket and non‑slip footwear
• Check tides, swell and weather
• Never fish alone
• Carry a phone and tell someone your plans
• Never turn your back on the sea
• Watch the conditions before you start and keep scanning
• Don’t jump in if someone is washed off the rocks
• If swept in, stay calm and swim away from the rocks
• In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000)
