#COUNTRYCHAMPS26 // Safety Update for Country Championships Competitors and Families.
As we prepare to welcome everyone to South West Rocks SLSC for the 2026 NSW Country Championships, we want to acknowledge the community concern around recent shark activity along the NSW coastline.
The safety of our competitors, officials and spectators remains our highest priority.
Alongside our standard water safety procedures, Surf Life Saving NSW has introduced several additional measures for this year’s event, including:
- Two UAVs providing continuous aerial surveillance during all water events, in addition to the local - UAV operating as part of the SLSNSW/DPIRD shark surveillance program
- Extended UAV operating hours from 6:00am daily to assess conditions before warm‑ups
- A minimum of four IRBs on the water from the start of warm‑ups
- Marine Rescue NSW patrolling offshore
- NSW Maritime conducting regular patrols around the competition area
- The local Marine Rescue base operating from 6:00am–6:00pm for increased monitoring
- Competition courses set to minimum allowable distances to reduce time in the water
- These measures work alongside our established safety frameworks to ensure the highest level of protection for all participants.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to deliver a safe and successful championship.

Today is a National Day of Mourning, a time for our community to pause and honour the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. We also recognise the extraordinary bravery of the first responders who stepped forward in the face of tragedy.
We encourage Surf Life Saving NSW members to take part in this moment of reflection by observing a minute of silence at 7:01pm (AEDT), spending time with family, friends and people of all faiths and backgrounds, and placing a candle on your doorstep or windowsill as a symbol of solidarity with the Jewish community. You may also choose to carry out a good deed or mitzvah in honour of Bondi.
Light will win.

#HAZARDOUSSURF // Hazardous surf alert for parts of NSW.
Large, powerful surf is set to impact beaches from Sydney to the Victorian border over the coming days, with dangerous conditions already affecting the Illawarra, Batemans Bay and Eden coasts.
A warning remains in place, and from today the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney will also be impacted. If the beach is closed or the ocean looks rough, please stay out of the water. These conditions make it harder and more dangerous for lifesavers to respond quickly so the safest choice is to avoid the coastline altogether.
Rock fishers are a key concern this weekend, with rock platforms becoming extremely risky in big surf. One unexpected wave can be life‑threatening.
Rock Fishing Safety Advice:
• Wear a lifejacket and non‑slip footwear
• Check tides, swell and weather
• Never fish alone
• Carry a phone and tell someone your plans
• Never turn your back on the sea
• Watch the conditions before you start and keep scanning
• Don’t jump in if someone is washed off the rocks
• If swept in, stay calm and swim away from the rocks
• In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000)

#SURFSPORTS // It was an event of two seasons, the constant was the swell. The Super Surf Teams League two day event at Maroubra brought together five NSW teams to challenge the other Australian states as well as a team from California. It was all a great training ramp up for the upcoming Country Champs!
Thank you to all the Officials who wove the event logistics and operations together. Thank you to all our NSW teams managers and coaches and to the athletes, you’re each an inspiration!
Congratulations to @lifesavingqld Seawolves on taking out the league this weekend with 118 points just ahead of our NSW Blues on 115 and NSW Rays (@slssnb ) on 94 in third. Well done also to NSW Orcas (@huntersurflifesaving @slscc) in 6th, NSW Sharks (@sls.sydney) in 7th, NSW Penguins (@southcoastbranchsls @surflifesavingillawarra @fscbranchsls) in 9th and the NSW Dolphins (LNC, MNC,NC, FNC) in 13th.

#SUMMER26 // Well to day was a real ride! Apart from soaring temperatures right across the state, up to 45 degrees in some areas, there was a lot of action on our beaches and a huge swell making lifesavers jobs challenging in the heat. A total of 35 critical incidents in NSW. We send our thanks to all who were on patrol or assisting in some way today and all those in Sydney and Hunter clubs that stayed back for extended patrols 🙏 it was quite a job.
From the @shawandpartnersironseries at Maroubra where our NSW athletes like @char1ieverco and @danielcollins96 @analisekibble @lizziewelborn (pictured 1) and @pipermaya did incredibly well across the Round 4 Specialist course.
On the same golden stretch of sand the Super Surf Teams League was going down with NSW rep teams putting it all on the line in the challenging swell and searing sand. Currently NSW Blues are in second place behind QLD with Rays in 4th, Sharks 5th Orcas 7th, Penguins 8th and Dolphins 11th. Competition continues tomorrow.
At North Steyne the Surfboats were battling the big seas and the Open Men and Women contested finals with @palmyboaties Pirates taking out the Women’s and @avalonbeachboaties Pinkies taking out the Men’s.
A special shout out to all the incredible Officials on the beach today at Maroubra and North Steyne! You’re amazing and we couldn’t do what we do without your commitment and happy faces! Enjoy a cold beverage tonight.
