#boardriding // The Board Riding Championships Competition Committee has considered the expected weather and surf conditions, based on advice provided by several agencies together with the local knowledge and experience of the Merewether SLSC, and has determined that there is no option other than to cancel the 2026 Board Riding Championships.��The Competition Committee met on two occasions this week to explore all possible options for relocation within the Hunter area. However, with the forecasted swell conditions, no suitable alternative venue was identified.��We are disappointed that this decision has had to be made. However, having processes in place to notify competitors, officials and supporters as early as possible is of paramount importance to allow alternate arrangements to be made where relevant.��We thank everyone for their understanding and support.

#irbseries // ROUND 3 CALLED OFF
Mother Nature has called the shots this week, and with the predicted weather and hazardous surf conditions set to come over the next few days, the Competition Committee has determined there is no option but to cancel Round 3 of the SHARKSKIN NSW IRB Premiership at Queenscliff this weekend.
We hope that making this decision now allows competitors, officials and supporters the opportunity to make alternative arrangements.
We thank everyone for their understanding. See you at Swansea in a few weeks for Round 4!

#MILESTONES // How many clubs in NSW do you think are celebrating or have passed their 100 year milestone? Well, the number surprised us too, it's 62/129 clubs!
Here's a collection of photos from Black Head Surf Life Saving Club's 100 year history, celebrated in October 2025. Records indicate that no lives have been lost on Black Head Beach during patrol hours in that entire century of service.
This strong and vibrant organisation traces its beginnings back to 1925, when several drownings and near‑drownings prompted local resident Frederick Charles Postle to approach Manning Shire Council on 21 September 1925. Councillor Wylie Breckenridge strongly supported the proposal, recognising the growing popularity of surf bathing among both locals and visitors and the need for proper safety measures.
To show how times may change but some things stay the same; the club assisted in the 1929 Taree floods. Together with Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club (Official) members the club crews used their surf boats to rescue more than 50 people stranded by the raging Manning River. The crews rowed tirelessly throughout the night and day to bring people and animals to safety and then deliver food an supplies in the days after.
It's sentiment and scenes like this that have been repeated countless times throughout our organisations history in response to community crisis and natural disasters. Time, and time again it reminds us and our communities of the significance of our coastal rescue capabilities, care and core values.
