#IRBINTERSTATE26 // When the action shots are this good, they’re too good to leave in the camera roll 📸🔥
Many years of hard work and focus on a singular goal came to a head at South West Rocks on Wednesday 15 July, where a strong NSW side ended a streak of Queensland dominance to triumph at the @sharkskin_watersports 2026 Australian IRB Interstate Championships.
NSW’s total of 60 points earned across the Open and U23 race categories was more than enough to help the sky blue caps to their first victory in nearly two decades – some 13 points ahead their rivals in maroon and a further eight points ahead of Victoria who placed third on the dias.
“I’m so proud of this team, this is another one to tick off my bucket list,” SLSNSW Director and Chair of Surf Sports, Don van Keimpema said.
“IRBs has been a bit of a passion project for me and to see this result after years of work, it’s outstanding and reflective of the effort put in.”
The win marked the start of a bumper four-day program for the Australian Championships, where NSW clubs showed their speed and skill against some of the best surf clubs in the country in the rubber ducks.

The final standings tell the story:
🥇 NSW – 60 points

#DRONES // There’s no doubt our drone operations are extremely effective in spotting sharks along the NSW coast.
While our drone pilots are trained to operate in a variety of conditions, there are times when weather and other factors make flights unsafe or less effective. Strong winds, rain, lightning and poor visibility can impact both flight safety and a pilot`s ability to accurately spot marine life from the air.
That`s why drone operations may occasionally be delayed, suspended or cancelled. Our priority is always keeping our pilots safe while ensuring the surveillance we`re providing is effective and reliable.

#MEMBERSHIP // A record-breaking season 🫶

It`s fantastic to see our surf lifesaving community continue to grow, with more members than ever helping keep our coastline safe ❤️💛

#BIGSURF // Hazardous Surf Warning ⚠️
Large surf and powerful swell are creating dangerous conditions along the NSW coastline, specifically from the Byron coast to the Illawarra.
Beachgoers, rock fishers and boaters are urged to check conditions and follow the advice of emergency services.
Conditions are expected to be dangerous for at least the next two days. Stay informed, make safe decisions and avoid unnecessary risks around the water.
