Four NSW clubs are among 12 nationally to be given a welcome boost ahead of what’s anticipated to be a busy summer – winning brand new Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) hulls as part of the 2026 Ampol IRB Hull Giveaway.
In a bid to support lifesaving capability, training and emergency response, national Major Sponsor, Ampol has run the giveaway for five years, and on 27 October announced Bondi SBLSC, Kiama SLSC, Urunga SLSC and Pambula SLSC as the NSW recipients this year.
First introduced in the 1970s, the IRB has become a familiar and highly versatile tool for lifesavers. Its speed and manoeuvrability allow trained crews to respond quickly to people in difficulty, while also supporting patrols, surveillance, training and other emergency operations.
Bondi’s Director of Lifesaving, Sarah Murray said they use the IRB on patrol every weekend, and it’s a critical part of the club’s rescue services.
“Having the right equipment for rescues is so important, and this new hull means so much to our members as well as the broader lifesaving operations,” she said.
“IRBs are at the core of our rescue readiness, and in the patrol environment the equipment has a limited lifespan.
“Bondi is so grateful for the generosity of Ampol. Receiving this new hull means we can stay on the water and be the best at saving lives.”
The new IRBs will be put to work by clubs with a range of local needs and operating environments, helping support the next generation of lifesavers while enhancing the capability of experienced volunteer crews.
