Boxing Day Rescue Wins Award

It was Boxing Day 2019 and the post-Christmas stampede to the NSW coastline had begun. A howling north-east wind was blowing - attracting kite-surfers and sailboarders to Sydney’s beaches to take advantage of the perfect sailing conditions. However, the swell increased over the course of the afternoon and by 3pm conditions on the water were rough with significant wind chop.


Dry Lifesavers Take to the Skies

Surf Life Saving NSW has had a long association with aviation over its 112-year history – operating both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters for search and rescue and marine creature surveillance. Now a new breed of ‘dry lifesaver’ is being trained to use unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) technology to help keep beachgoers safe on the NSW coastline.


Aussie Lifesavers Support New Gaza Surf Club

The Palestinian territory of Gaza isn’t well known for its beaches. Its association with the Australian Surf Life Saving movement, however, dates back to World War II and two Gazan surf lifesavers are determined to set up a new Gaza Beach Surf Lifesaving Club - with the assistance of North Steyne SLSC in Manly and the Gaza Surf Project.


Five Minutes with Hayley Smith

Hayley Smith from Cudgen Headland SLSC is attending her 10th State Champs this year. At 18, Hayley has developed into a talented surf competitor representing the Far North Coast branch and the NSW Country team at the Interstate Championships.

Tom Bridge from Avoca SLSC will compete in his last Your local club Inclusive Champs this year ahead of transitioning into the Under 12s Nippers program in 2021.


On the Mic With Harold Marshall

Harold Marshall is a member the 2018/19 NSW Club of the Year, Umina SLSC. This year he celebrates a decade since completing his Bronze Medallion. Not only did he attend the State Champs as the proud parent of upcoming athletes (Davara, 14 and Lucy, 12) and an official, he also hosted live stream and hosts the State Champs highlights show to be aired on SBS this Sunday 19 April 3-4pm.
