Beachgoers across Northern NSW are being urged to remain vigilant both in and around the water in coming days as a developing swell has prompted the Bureau of Meteorology and Surf Life Saving to issue a warning for hazardous surf conditions.

Surf lifesavers around the state are preparing for a busy weekend with a forecast of large weekend swells prompting safety agencies to issue a hazardous surf warning to all swimmers, surfers, rock fishers, and recreational boaters looking to head out on the water in coming days.

A number of long serving surf club members have been recognised for their outstanding efforts and contributions to their respective communities in the 2018 Australia Day Honours List announced last Friday.

Surf lifesavers have joined forces with emergency services including the NSW Police, Ambulance Service, and Marine Rescue NSW to reinforce safety on the coast in the lead-up to the Australia Day long weekend.

NSW beaches got a little cleaner on Monday as Surf Life Saving NSW announced more than 70 surf clubs across the state have already registered their intention to become ‘donation sites’ for the NSW Government’s ‘Return and Earn’ Container Deposit Scheme initiative.
