They are a common sight on beaches across the state, powering through the surf on the way to plucking stranded swimmers out of the water, and this weekend surf lifesavers from across Sydney and the Far North coast will be making their way to Garie Beach for an important training session.

Surf Life Saving Clubs across the state are busy putting the final touches on their 2017 Open Day program which takes place this Sunday 15 October.

When one starry eyed Nipper and his proud parents complete the registration papers at Bulli SLSC on Saturday he will not only be continuing a family tradition, but will be making history becoming a fourth generation lifesaver to belong to the same club in the same season.
