Three volunteer surf lifesavers have been named as finalists in the NSW Rotary Inspirational Women’s Awards for 2020.

The achievements of lifesavers from across the state were honoured at Surf Life Saving NSW’s Awards of Excellence on Saturday night.
The achievements of Surf Life Saving NSW’s finest were celebrated at the annual Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence on Saturday 29 August. Over 180 finalists, along with their friends, family and the wider Surf Life Saving community, took part in the virtual awards ceremony.
Four volunteer surf lifesavers were among the 28 emergency service personnel announced as finalists in the Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards 2020 by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott this week.
It has been a big year for the Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club. Designs for new clubhouse have been approved, planning is underway for the club’s 100-year anniversary celebrations and members recently elected their first-ever female Club President.
A strong field of 182 finalists has been named in the 2020 Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence.
Wednesday 1 July 2020 marks 40 years since women were given the opportunity by Surf Life Saving Australia to achieve their Bronze Medallions, don the iconic red and yellow patrol uniform and actively patrol Australian beaches as surf lifesavers.
It was August 1980 and Sue Martin was fit, loved the beach and wanted to be a surf lifesaver. It was pre-season and she was told that for the first time ever, a squad of women were about to start training at Austinmer Beach. The water was cold, but it was a great opportunity to do her Bronze Medallion, so she asked to be included in the squad.
