As one of the largest volunteer organisations of its type in Australia counting almost 75,000 people among its number in NSW alone, the surf lifesaving movement remains indebted to everyone who helps make what we do possible.

Whether it’s a frontline position or a behind-scenes-task, there is role for everyone within the movement, which remains one of our greatest strengths.

Some of these varied roles include patrolling on the beach, educating and training their fellow members, volunteering as an age group manager or even joining club committee.

One thing that every position has in common is that they all play a vital role in ensuring the health of our 129 surf clubs, and in turn the future of the movement.

“Volunteers are truly the lifeblood of our organisation and National Volunteer Week is an ideal time to reflect on the contribution of our surf lifesavers,” said SLSNSW Membership Manager Claire Bevis.

“Everyone within surf life saving lives by the creed Give A Little. Change A Lot, which is the theme for this year’s Volunteer Week. In doing so they have also lived up to our mission of saving lives, create great Australians, and building better communities.

“I would like to acknowledge the hundreds of hours that our membership has donated in the 2017/18 season as it’s certainly much appreciated,” she said.

With National Volunteer Week ending for another year last week attention turns to the next event which will celebrate the efforts of our amazing volunteers; the 2018 NSW Surf Life Saving Awards of Excellence.

The NSW annual Awards of Excellence are an opportunity for volunteer lifesavers from around the state to come together and honour outstanding contributions in surf sport, education, member services and lifesaving.

In 2018 the ceremony moves to a new venue with the festivities taking place at Dockside Darling Harbour on Saturday August 25.

With a number of new awards also making their debut this season, it promises to be a night full of glitz, glamour, fun, and of course celebration.

Tickets go on sale from today and will close on Monday 6 August.

Individual tickets and tables of 12 are available.
