As the 2019 NSW Envirobank Country Championships looms on the horizon here at Surf Life Saving NSW we are taking the opportunity to profile some of those athletes striving to make their mark at Kingscliff Beach.

Name: Storm Balmain

Club: Warilla Barrack Point SLSC

Age Group: U11

Events planned to contest: Swim, Board, Ironman, Board Relay, Swim Teams, and Cameron Relay

How long have you been involved in surf lifesaving?  I started 7 years ago as a member of the Nippers Green Hats.

What do you enjoy most about being a member of a surf lifesaving club? I really enjoy making new friends, having fun, and being involved with the ocean. One day I hope to help by saving lives.

How has your training been going for the Country Championships?  Since Boxing Day we have doing four training sessions a week. It’s a mix of Iron, Swim and Board training.  As a club we have a lot volunteer helpers that come down to help out with the training and coaching. Our main coach is Ross Day (father of champion Ironman Ali Day).

What are your goals for the Championships and the rest of the season? I would love to come out with a first on the Board at both major championships to keep it rolling.

What are you most looking forward to about Country Championships? I am looking forward to the team events as well as competing at a new place.

Are there any surf athletes you admire or have found to be an inspiration and why? Ali Day, Hayden White, and Ben Carberry are all boys who grew up in the same club are now competing in the Ocean 6 events.
