Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres has announced that the NSW Government’s $2 million Surf Club Facility Grant Program for 2016-17 is open for applications from 21 December to 10 February.

“Surf clubs throughout NSW can apply for grants from $40,000 to $350,000 to help develop their facilities and address significant building condition issues. These improvements will increase usage and safety for surf club members and the wider community.

“From nippers to senior patrollers, members of Surf Life Saving clubs provide an amazing service to the people of NSW.

“Not only do they patrol our beaches, saving the lives of locals, visitors and tourists, they provide enormous opportunities for people of all ages to contribute to their community.

Surf Life Saving NSW welcomes the funding announcement by the NSW Government.

“Our dedicated volunteers, ordinary men and women who give up their time to protect the public, deserve to have safe facilities in which to train and store vital rescue equipment," said Acting CEO Adam Weir.

"We are extremely pleased to see the NSW Government recognise the contribution of our members by supporting them in this way."

This vital funding program has delivered $22 million over the last 11 years to surf clubs throughout NSW.

Types of projects that will be funded include:

  • construction of new surf club facilities;

  • capital enhancement of the facilities at existing clubs; and

  • priority will be given to those clubs identified as being in a poor or unserviceable condition.
