It’s been a busy 2017/18 season for Bermagui’s Cheryl McCarthy who was crowned Administrator of the Year at the annual Awards of Excellence in Sydney last weekend.
A proud surf lifesaver who wears many hats she has made a significant and sustained contribution at both club and branch level over the past 12 months.
Not only is Cheryl the Secretary of Bermagui SLSC, she is also the Far South Coast Assistant Director of lifesaving, the Chair of SLSA alumni in NSW, patrolled 120 hours this season, and played a key role in the evacuation centre activation for Bermagui SLSC during the Tathra bushfires.
She’s enhanced member development by fostering inter-club networks and promoting NSW development programs through her contacts, proving adept at navigating the sometimes rocky terrain of club-land, and is a fierce advocate for the betterment of lifesavers everywhere
She is always keen to improve her own skills and this is reflected both in the number of leadership programs she participated in as well as awards she achieved.
During the year she obtained her IRB Driver and RWC Operator awards, participated in leadership programs, as well as multiple emergency management courses.
Her efforts out of the surf were instrumental in helping Bermagui achieve Bronze Quality Club Status for the first time, and she is always keen to improve the experience for members both at her beloved club and in the wider area.
The 2018 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence are proudly supported by Port Authority of New South Wales with almost 400 of Surf Life Saving’s most outstanding lifesavers, athletes, educators, coaches, and administrators from around the state gathering at Dockside, Cockle Bay to celebrate the season that was.
