Team Borg has taken out the first Envirobank Super Team Series event at Swansea Belmont SLSC today. The team lead by Nutri-Grain Ironman Jackson Borg (Newport SLSC) lead a team of the sports top and most talented upcoming athletes in the water and on the sand and won round one with a total of 251 points.

Borg said after the point score was revealed, “What a way to get the surf season started. This has been a great initiative by Surf Life Saving NSW and I can’t believe I’ve been given the opportunity to captain an epic side. Even though this is the first event of the season everyone has brought their A-game.

“The teams format is really exciting and a good idea to kick off the season with everyone having a bit of fun while getting back into it. It’s also a pretty awesome way to give the Under 17 competitors a chance to compete against and with Opens athletes,” said Borg.

Team Black showed that their strength was in the teams events. They took out the Female Surf Race (Zara Sharman, Bulli SLSC), Sprint (Grace Hewitt, Fingal Beach SLSC), Mixed Surf Teams, Mixed Board Relay, Mixed Beach Relay, Female Taplin Relay.

Local Daniel Collins’s Team Red came in second place today with a number of significant wins. The Red Team had it’s greatest success on the sand and with it’s female competitors. They started the day strong with Tiahna Woodger (North Cronulla) taking out the 2km Beach Run. Alex Rampoldi (North Cronulla) eliminated her sister Leah in the final of the Flags.

James Koch (Shelley Beach) of the Blue Team Pierce showed he’s been in training in the off-season taking out the Male Surf Race with ease and helping Team Pierce push ahead in the Surf Teams to take the win and gain vital points to come in third overall after round one.

Team captain Britney Pierce (Wanda SLSC) was part of the group who came up with the format, “We had a meeting in the off-season about how we could get everyone back on the beach and into smaller competition,” said Pierce. “We’re just so happy it’s all come together and we’re here today with good conditions, a bit of surf and really strong teams, stacked talent so it’s been pretty exciting racing today.”

The Envirobank Super Team Series continues on 7 November at Bulli SLSC with the series concluding with round three at Umina SLSC on 5 December.
