The state’s top surf sport athletes continue to earn national recognition with six NSW based athletes named in the Australian team that will contest the International Surf Rescue Challenge later this year.

Newport trio Georgia Miller, Jake Lynch, and Blake Drysdale will be joined on tour by Kendrick Louis (Manly), and young-guns Jemma Smith (Umina) and Lizzie Welborn (North Bondi) in what is shaping up to be a very competitive Australian side.

The team was confirmed by Surf Life Saving Australia last week with a host of familiar names joining the NSW contingent in a squad that boasts plenty of experience on the international stage.

“I would like to congratulate all our NSW based athletes on their selection for the International Surf Rescue Challenge,” said Surf Sport Manager Rob Pidgeon.

“It’s an honour to be selected in any representative side, but to wear the colours of your country is obviously the pinnacle of an athlete’s career. To have so many members from our state highlights the incredible depth at the moment.

“I am sure that all those selected will do credit to themselves and to their clubs when they take to the surf or the beach later this year,” Mr Pidgeon concluded.

The DHL International Surf Rescue Challenge will feature three tests held on the 30th of November and 2nd-3rd of December 2017 in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, and will be contested by Youth and Open competitors.

Events in the Surf and Beach disciplines will be contested with the competition considered a vital part of preparations for next year’s World Lifesaving Champions that will be held in South Australia.
