44 of the state’s most passionate and dedicated volunteers have been recognised for their many years of service with National Medals in the recent Batch 57 announcement by Surf Life Saving Australia.

Part of the Australian honours system, the National Medal acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated sustained and diligent service while protecting the community during emergencies and natural disasters.

This year’s NSW recipients include 32 individuals who have reached 15 years of service, and nine members receiving their 1st Clasp for 25 years of service. Three members have also been awarded their 2nd Clasp, marking an extraordinary 35 years of service to the Surf Life Saving movement.

Surf Life Saving NSW President, Elissa Hancock said she was extremely proud of each member’s contribution to the movement.

“This is such a prestigious award, and it always fills me with pride when I see NSW members recognised by the National Medal for their efforts in protecting our coastline and our coastal communities,” she said.

“We are very lucky as a gazetted emergency service to be supported by over 86,000 dedicated and passionate members, and this honour, in a way, is testament to their commitment to the movement and their character as individuals.”
