A team of eager young Nippers from across the Mid North Coast made the journey south to Lake Macquarie for the 2018 NSW Age Surf Life Saving Championships last weekend hosted by Swansea Belmont SLSC.

Port Macquarie SLSC was top of the table for Mid North Coast clubs finishing the competition in a highly creditable 29th spot overall.

Ty-Jesse Brabant continued his strong campaign sealing silver in a highly competitive U14 Male Board Race in his final race at an Age Championships before making the step up to seniors.

Fleur Sherlock was the club’s other medallist claiming bronze in the U13 Female Beach Flags.

Other strong performances came from the U14 Male Board Rescue team of Ty-Jess Brabant and Jesse Hiatt who finished just outside the medals, Harry Askew finished as a finalist in the U12 Ironman and Surf Race, while Jaidyn Rossiter came sixth in the U14 Beach Sprint.

It was a challenging meet for the North Coast and Lower North Coast based clubs as they took on the best competitors from across the state, with entrants from Cape Hawke, Forster and Sawtell.

NSW Surf Sports Manager Rob Pidgeon felt that it was a highly successful competition for the young athletes.

“I would like to congratulate everyone for what was an extremely successful State Age Championships.

“Some of our older Nipper competitors will now go on to get their first taste of national level racing at next month’s Australian Championships while our younger ones can look forward to an exciting finish with their club season,” Mr Pidgeon said.
