Restart a Heart Day is a global initiative of the European Resuscitation Council, co-ordinated in Australia and New Zealand by the Council of Ambulance Authorities to raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and AEDs in the community. It falls on 16 October each year.

You can learn how to save a life in three simple steps – Call, Push, Shock.

CALL Triple Zero immediately. The operator will talk you through the steps to perform CPR and, if possible, use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

PUSH hard, with a steady rhythm, on the chest.

SHOCK with an AED if available.

Surf Life Saving NSW supports the core strategy of the campaign – to improve the 1 in 10 survival rate for patients in Australia and New Zealand who have experienced an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), by creating a community that has more people who can save a life by knowing how to do CPR (and use an AED).

It aligns perfectly with our mission – to save lives!

Research shows that approximately 80% of CPR happens at home. Engaging in initiatives like Restart a Heart Day may help someone you love.

The following video is designed to help you learn the steps necessary to be prepared in an emergency.
