In an all-too-familiar tale, NSW athletes have taken out yet another Australian Ocean and Beach Interstate Championships, defending the crown for the seventh time in a row at Maroubra Beach on Friday 9 January.

A young sky blues squad looked strong and commanding across the sand and the surf, holding off traditional foes, Queensland and eventually taking the title by 12 points on a scorching day in Sydney’s east.

Excitingly, the results don’t just paint a colourful picture of the health of NSW surf sports today – they’re an impressive glimpse into the future.

Teenagers, Olivia Clues (Newport SLSC) and Kaity Rees (Swansea Belmont SLSC) finished first and second in the Open Female Iron, while Dane Sutton (Wanda SLSC) and Jett Green (Avoca Beach SLSC) claimed podium places in the Open Male Iron.

For her part, Kaity proved once again why she will be a big player for many years to come, podiuming in all her races including a win in the Open Female Swim.

NSW also dominated the Youth Mixed team events, finishing first in each category, while former clubmates Maddix Burke (Wanda) and Kobe Sims (Warilla Barrick Point SLSC) finished first and third, respectively, in the Youth Male Ski.

Issy Arghyros (Cudgen Headland SLSC) made her trip from up north worthwhile, winning the Youth Female Board. State champion sprinter, Rory Muldowney (South Maroubra SLSC) won the Youth Male Sprint, and Tahlia Goy (Shelly Beach SLSC) was too quick in the Youth Female Sprint.

Still on the beach, Jake Lynch (South Maroubra) returned to the NSW State Team for the first time in nearly a decade to take out the Open Male Flags, while Mia Greacen (Wanda) won both the Open Female Flags and Sprint.
