With the school holidays rapidly approaching, Lifeguards from across the NSW North Coast are gearing up for another busy season with their annual proficiency skills testing this weekend.

Macksville-Scotts Head SLSC were presented with their distinguished National Rescue of the Month award for the May/June period on Thursday at Canberra’s Parliament House.

The dangers of rip currents were brought into stark reality recently when an off-duty surf lifesaver together with a member of the public rescued three women caught in a rip off Cabarita Beach on the NSW Far North Coast.

Beachgoers looking to take advantage of a warm start to spring will be able to enjoy a swim at a patrolled beach thanks to the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) who will shortly be resuming patrols at beaches around NSW.

As NSW slowly emerged from the depths of winter, thousands of patrolling lifesavers from all over the state eagerly anticipated the coming spring when they could once again resume their task of keeping a watchful eye on our beautiful beaches.

In an ongoing effort to reduce the drowning toll, Surf Life Saving NSW has received funding from the Surf Life Saving Australia Beach Drowning Blackspot Reduction Program to use in a variety of innovative projects to further improve public awareness.
