Man Drowns at Notorious Wattamolla Beach

Despite the fast response of Surf Life Saving and emergency service personnel, a 27-year-old man drowned yesterday at remote Wattamolla Beach after swimming in a coastal lagoon outside lifeguard patrol hours.


New Report Shows Boating Deaths Highest on Record

Surf Life Saving NSW today launched its 2020 NSW Coastal Safety Report which highlights a concerning spike in boating-related coastal drownings on the NSW coastline. Last year, for the first time, boating incidents eclipsed swimming as the activity which led to the most fatalities.

In response to research that highlighted 50 percent of people rescued from the surf live more than 50km from the beach, volunteer surf lifesavers have been visiting schools in rural and remote areas of NSW for the last 26 years to educate primary school students about beach safety as a part of Surf Life Saving NSW’s iconic Beach to Bush initiative.​
