Sharks, Big Crowds and Rescues keep Surf Lifesavers Busy

Surf lifesavers were flat-out across the October long weekend with high temperatures bringing huge crowds to most NSW beaches. Despite Christmas holiday like numbers on the beach and a significant number of rescues along the NSW coastline, there were no drownings thanks to the efforts of volunteer surf lifesavers and lifeguards along the coast.

LIVE: 2020 Envirobank Super Teams Series Drafting

Surf Life Saving NSW is excited to introduce the Envirobank NSW Super Team Series - a new event concept that features six teams competing across Swim, Ski, Board, Sprint, Flags, 2km Run and Relay racing over three rounds, similar to the SSTL and Interstate formats.

Athletes will be drafted into six teams across the disciplines of Swim, Ski, Board, 2km Run, Sprint, Flag and Iron.

Surf Lifesavers Prepare for a Busy Long Weekend on NSW Beaches

With COVID-19 travel restrictions preventing holidaymakers from travelling interstate or overseas, the number of people on some NSW beaches these school holidays has been similar to those normally seen at Christmas and New Year. Surf lifesavers are now worried about the possibility of increased coastal drownings this coming long weekend.

World’s Largest CPR Class A Success

Surf Life Saving NSW was proud to partner with the former yellow Wiggle Greg Page and Nextdoor in a world record attempt for the most people trained in CPR at one time. The free virtual event beamed live from the Castle Hill RSL on 19 September was estimated to have reached around 25,000 people on the night, and an additional 5000 post the event.

Teenager Drowns Near Forster

Surf lifesavers are pleading with holidaymakers to always swim between the red and yellow flags, at patrolled locations, after a teenager drowned at an unpatrolled beach on the NSW Lower North Coast today.
