Qantas is taking passenger safety to new heights with the inclusion of beach safety messages as part of its in-flight public announcements for flights to many coastal capitals and regional centres this summer.

Like many who spend their lives around the ocean, surf lifesavers are uniquely placed to understand not only the ebbs and flows of the tide but also the impact that rubbish can have on the marine environment.

Like thousands of other Australians, volunteer surf lifesavers across the state will pause on Sunday to reflect on the sacrifice of not only those who gave their life for the country but served during the war effort.

Representatives from across the state’s emergency services sector gathered at the Surf Life Saving NSW Headquarters on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Monday ahead of what promises to be another busy summer.

There is one night each year where the best of the best surf lifesavers in Australia come together. The 2018 Surf Life Saving Australia Awards of Excellence was held at the Art Gallery of NSW with an audience of extraordinary volunteers.
