As thousands of festival revellers from as far away as Southern NSW and Queensland prepare to make their annual pilgrimage to Byron Bay for Splendour In The Grass, the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) and Far North Coast Surf Lifesaving has issued a warning that alcohol, drugs and swimming can be a deadly combination.

Surf lifesavers from Macksville-Scotts Head SLSC who braved the East Coast Low in June to rescue a stranded kayaker have been awarded the prestigious National and State Rescue of the Month for their efforts.

Surf lifesavers from Surf Rescue 50 (SR50) have been recognised with the prestigious NSW Rescue of the Month award after saving the life of a rock fisherman near Kiama Downs on the State’s South Coast in June.

Rock fishers, swimmers, surfers, and recreational boat users are being urged to exercise caution in the water as the forecast of large surf conditions from Saturday prompted surf lifesavers and the Bureau of Meteorology to issue a warning about the hazardous conditions.

Surf Lifesavers from Manly, North Steyne and North Bondi Surf Clubs were today recognised for their rescue efforts receiving the prestigious National Rescue of the Month award.
