The quick and decisive action of a group of surf lifesavers from Helensburgh-Stanwell Park to rescue a stranded paraglider has been recognised at a national level with the group announced as National Rescue of Month Winner for November.

Powerful surf conditions on Boxing Day may have closed their beach but that didn’t stop the dutiful surf lifesavers from Windang SLSC from carrying out a mass rescue that subsequently earned the group the prestigious National and NSW Rescue of the Month award for December.

Surf lifesavers from two Illawarra Surf Clubs were presented with their National Rescue of the Month awards on Thursday morning at Parliament House, Canberra.

North Wollongong SLSC has been awarded the prestigious National and NSW Rescue of the Month after rescuing four beachgoers in early January 2017.

There was a touch of summer to help shake off the winter blues in the nation’s capital on Thursday as surf lifesavers from two NSW clubs were formally recognised for their courageous rescue efforts earlier this year.
