With holiday time almost here, volunteer surf lifesavers and professional lifeguards from the Australian Lifeguard Service are gearing up for another busy summer watching over our beautiful beaches.

Planning a day at the beach has never been easier and a bunch of new apps means that beachgoers are able to access up-to-the minute weather forecasts, information about surf conditions or find their nearest patrolled beach.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries has installed shark nets at five locations across the Far North Coast for a six month trial as part of the government’s multi-million dollar commitment to shark management.

Two lifesavers from Helensburgh-Stanwell Park SLSC have been awarded the prestigious NSW Rescue of the Month for coming to the aid of a stranded paraglider.

Ahead of what promises to be another busy festive season on NSW beaches, lifesavers and lifeguards have issued a plea to those heading to the coast – swim at a patrolled location and look out for your family and friends.

Our Profile of the Month for June is Naida Guy from Kiama Downs SLSC. The very proud surf lifesaver joined 22 years ago and in that time has performed a host of roles at the club, and almost as importantly, met her husband. Naida encourages everyone to dream big and never give up.
