A cool start on the thermometer but a hot one on the sand and in the surf – the 2026 NSW Country Championships kicked off today, Friday 23 January, and saw hundreds of athletes strut their stuff at South West Rocks surf club.

A new year, new location, and new challenges await more than 1,000 athletes who will descend on the state’s Mid North Coast for the 2026 NSW Surf Life Saving Country Championships, set to run from this Friday and across the weekend, January 23–25. 

In an all-too-familiar tale, NSW athletes have taken out yet another Australian Ocean and Beach Interstate Championships, defending the crown for the seventh time in a row at Maroubra Beach on Friday 9 January. 

Sydney Branch continued its recent dominance of teams format racing with a comprehensive point score victory at the Interbranch Championships at Avoca Beach from 29-30 November – its fourth straight. 

The NSW lineup for the 2025/26 Iron Series has been set following the Trials at Tugun in Queensland on 20-21 September, with nine athletes across the male and female fields set to represent our state. 

A near flawless season has ended in triumph once again for Caves Beach SLSC, with the club picking up yet another Sharkskin NSW IRB Championships title to go with the Premiership victory its teams tasted just a fortnight ago. 

Caves Beach SLSC continues to set the standard for IRB racing in NSW, picking up a round win and subsequently the Sharkskin NSW Premiership Series title at Warilla Barrack Point on Sunday 15 June. 

Team pride, sustained form and a whole bunch of medals are all on the line this weekend at Warilla Barrack Point, with the final round of the Sharkskin NSW IRB Premiership promising thrilling action and some impressive racing. 

As the 2025 Sharkskin NSW IRB Premiership Series descends on Avoca Beach for the third and penultimate round, instincts will be sharpening and patient pick-ups practiced and perfected, with all categories, as well as the Overall Point Score title, very much up for grabs.
