2025 ‘Gone Fishing’ Rock Fishing Safety Program
July 19

Surf Life Saving NSW will deliver Phase 2 of the highly successful rock fishing safety and skills program, Gone Fishing to at-risk communities over several months in 2025.
Rock fishing is one of the most popular recreational activities in New South Wales, but also one of the most dangerous in Australia, with a high risk of injury and drowning.
According to Surf Life Saving Australia’s Coastal Safety Brief – Fishing 2023, 70% of rock fishers who drowned were not wearing life jackets. Despite the risks, many prioritise fishing conditions over safety, and 46% choose not to wear life jackets.
