The Event Safety & Medical Operations Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all Surf Life Saving Services (SLSS) event safety operations—including event medical, event water safety, and risk management services—meet contractual and regulatory requirements. About the role

The role provides operational oversight, coordination, and support across the Event Safety team to achieve the goals of SLSS Strategic and Business Plans. The position also ensures that event safety services are delivered by a highly skilled and professional team, supported by effective systems, compliance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Some of the key duties will include:

  • Oversee operational planning and delivery of event safety services, including risk assessments, hazard identification, and implementation of mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate the preparation of event safety documentation including safety plans, procedures and risk management documentation for management approval.
  • Manage event safety gear and equipment, and ensure all servicing and maintenance requirements are met.
  • Maintain rostering systems, ensuring staff qualifications, deployment, and pay levels are accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements as they relate to the provision of medical services
  • Act in the role of Chair of the SLSNSW/SLSS Medical Advisory Group (MAG), ensuring the MAG meets regularly and achieves the objectives set out by the organisation.
  • Manage internal SLSS Clinician Credentialing and Competency programs to ensure all clinicians engaged with SLSS are inducted into and competent in meeting the standards outlined within the SLSS Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • Regularly review & update the SLSS Clinical Practice Guidelines ensuring they are accurately reflecting current best practice and meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Ensure event safety services are delivered in accordance with client contracts, service agreements, and SLSS standards.

What you’ll need:

  • Current registration as a medical professional (AHPRA or equivalent) or proven commitment to obtain.
  • Substantial experience and technical knowledge in medical, lifeguarding, first aid, paramedic, or public safety roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and deliver event safety operations in diverse and dynamic environments.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with proven ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgement.
  • High-level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ethical practices, WHS, Positive Duty, Child Safety, EEO, and anti-discrimination.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and Public Holidays, with willingness to travel as required.
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence.

Position: Full Time. Contract until 30 June 2027.
