#SURFSPORTS 🏆 NSW CLAIMS THE ALAN B WHELPTON AO PERPETUAL SHIELD! 💙

For the first time in more than a decade, NSW has claimed the Alan B Whelpton AO Perpetual Shield, recognising the highest-performing State across all Interstate events.

Across this years Interstate Championships, our NSW athletes came together as one force, claiming victories in Ocean & Beach, Surf Boat and IRB, with a strong second-place finish at last weekend’s Pool Rescue Interstate Championship helping secure the Shield for NSW.

The result reflects the incredible culture developing across our NSW teams. Strong internal competition within NSW continues to push our athletes to new levels, while the depth of talent across our clubs is only growing with development opportunities and programs delivered over the past four years helping to strengthen athlete pathways and build the next generation of NSW competitors.

As SLSNSW Director and Chair of Surf Sports Donald Van Keimpema put it, the team has truly been “coming together as one force” 💙

#DRONES // 25,000+ flights. 600+ shark sightings. One month.

In the first month of the enhanced NSW Shark Management Program, Surf Life Saving NSW drones completed more than 25,000 flights, monitored 165,000km+ of coastline, and recorded 600+ shark sightings, leading to 200 countermeasures - being beach closures and alerting people in the water.

With more than 800 flights every day, drone surveillance is helping spot sharks earlier and provide immediate alerts to beachgoers right along the NSW coast.

#RESCA26 // Volunteers Honoured at Rotary Awards 👏

@brunswickslsc Patrol Captain, Simon Ceglinski has been recognised for more than two decades of passionate and dedicated service to the movement by the Rotary Districts of NSW, taking out the Surf Life Saving NSW category at the annual Rotary Emergency Service Community Awards (RESCA).

Congratulations also to @wollongongcityslsc Kane Doull, who was awarded the Dorothy Hennessy OAM Youth Scholarship.

Many years of hard work and focus on a singular goal came to a head at South West Rocks on Wednesday 15 July, where a strong NSW side ended a streak of Queensland dominance to triumph at the @sharkskin_watersports 2026 Australian IRB Interstate Championships.

NSW’s total of 60 points earned across the Open and U23 race categories was more than enough to help the sky blue caps to their first victory in nearly two decades – some 13 points ahead their rivals in maroon and a further eight points ahead of Victoria who placed third on the dias.

“I’m so proud of this team, this is another one to tick off my bucket list,” SLSNSW Director and Chair of Surf Sports, Don van Keimpema said.

“IRBs has been a bit of a passion project for me and to see this result after years of work, it’s outstanding and reflective of the effort put in.”

The win marked the start of a bumper four-day program for the Australian Championships, where NSW clubs showed their speed and skill against some of the best surf clubs in the country in the rubber ducks.

#POOLRESCUEINTERSTATE26 // Meet the 2026 NSW Pool Rescue Interstate team 🏊 💥

From 7–9 August, Australia’s top lifesavers will take to the pool at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide, competing for national honours and the opportunity to earn selection in the Australian Lifesaving Team.

After 17 consecutive years of QLD dominance, NSW has rewritten the history books, claiming the Interstate Championship Title in emphatic fashion at the @sharkskin_watersports 2026 Australian IRB Championships.

The final standings tell the story:
🥇 NSW – 60 points
🥈 QLD – 47 points
🥉 VIC – 41 points

What made this victory so special wasn`t just the result. It was the consistency, the composure under pressure and the way this team raced for each other in every single event. The team culture, spirit and support shown today was second to none, with many commenting on how well this entire group worked together both on and off the water.
