Surf Life Saving NSW is pleased to confirm the selections for the 2017 NSW U18 Pool Rescue Development team who will tour New Zealand in October.

The 10-strong team of talented 16-18 year olds will travel to Auckland to compete at the New Zealand Pool Rescue Championships which are held at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre at AUT Millennium.

This tour is a great stepping stone for younger athletes to be able to progress in the sport of Pool Rescue and be given a pathway to some of the many representative team opportunities in Surf Life Saving.

Athletes and Team Management will leave Sydney’s shores from 11 October with the Championships to be held from 13-15 October.

The NZ Pool Rescue Championships are one of the most competitive in the world and the successful athletes will not only be competing against some of the best pool rescue athletes but will also gain tuition through top level coaching and enjoy the experience of an international tour as a representative for NSW.

Recently announced NSW Interstate team athletes Jack Curran (Caves Beach) and Emily Doyle (Manly) have been selected for the second consecutive year along with Redhead’s Bailey Proud.

Terrigal’s Rachelle King who has also been selected as part of the NSW Interstate team will lead the tour in NZ as Head Coach. She’ll be assisted by Team Manager Blake McCrindle (Wanda) and Ela Heiniger (Byron Bay).

Surf Life Saving NSW Sports Development Officer Tim Piper says the selected athletes have bright futures.

“History has shown that athletes who secure results in NZ and continue their form are well placed for selection in the NSW Interstate Team as well as the Australian squad,” Mr Piper said.

“It’s an amazing achievement for the athletes to be chosen in this touring team and we wish them the best of luck at the New Zealand Pool Rescue Championships.”
