#MYSURFLIFE // With school sport back, terrible weather in the FNC and a whole lot of other un-beach-related activities going on around the state we saw our weekend stats down significantly for the first time since the holiday period. But there was no shortage of good times happening at our clubs from Rainbow Beaches, Valentine’s Day, Nippers, Surf Boat events, our own State Championships Lifesaving events and event a visit from the Marine Area Command - NSW Police Force for the Far South Coast Nippers.

#SLSNSWPRESIDENT // We warmly welcome the election of the first female President of SLSNSW in our 118-year history, Elissa Hancock.

Elissa brings significant experience to our growing organisation – most recently through her current role as Sydney Branch President and a Patrol Captain and Patron of Era SLSC.

Having amassed nearly four decades of experience across a range of Surf Life Saving areas, Elissa is a champion for youth and an advocate for evolution across the movement. She steps into the role vacated by Peter Agnew AM who was elected to the position of President of Surf Life Saving Australia in November last year.

Congratulations, Elissa, on your successful election. We look forward to working together to continue saving lives and supporting our incredible surf lifesaving community across the state. ...

#OLYMPICGOLD // It’s official. A public holiday has been declared today in Pambula on the Far South Coast after Cooper Woods, ex Pambula SLSC nipper, became our newest Olympic Gold Medallist last night! Club Captain Andrew Holt said the small town was stoked.

“Coop was always very talented and full of cheek. Everything was a race. There was only one speed for him and that was flat out.”

With both parents having been surfboat rowers, this skiing superstar was bound to be a serious competitor.

“The determination of that kid,” recalls Andrew, “if anyone was gonna win a gold medal at the Olympics, it was gonna be Cooper.

“We’re just so proud of him, it’s an inspiration for all the other young kids around here. Kid from a country club, comes home with a gold medal, that doesn’t happen very often.”

Jump in and join the @nswinstituteofsport Kayak JETS Program with coaches Jake Michael, Ross Chaffer and @jemmaksmith. If you’re U15-U17 it’s your opportunity to give it a crack even if just to improve ski paddling skills.
