Three key awards for lifesavers on the North and Far North Coast of NSW, announced at the SLSNSW Awards of Excellence, has highlighted the strength of volunteers in key regional areas across the state.
Lifesavers on the NSW Central Coast have picked up a quarter of the awards on offer, including the blue-chip Surf Lifesaver of the Year category, at the SLSNSW Awards of Excellence – the culmination of a stellar season for the Branch.
A huge season has been celebrated and reflected on by nearly 500 volunteer lifesavers and their supporters, coming together on Saturday 24 August for the annual Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence event in Sydney.
Coastal drowning deaths and drownings in total in NSW are up for the 2023-24 year, detailed in the National Drowning Report released on Tuesday 20 August.
At the core of the mission of our membership is saving lives – the ultimate aim of what all the training, education and dedication represents when we hit the beach.
Involvement in Surf Sports at any level – be it a competitor, coach or official – requires sincere and often unrivalled commitment to stand out in the field.
For Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators, it’s about getting the right people on the beach. Plain and simple. These roles are critical to the development, progression and, ultimately, achievement of our goals as members of Surf Life Saving.
Surf Life Saving NSW doesn’t exist in its current form without its members – the hard-working, dedicated faces behind the rescues, first aids and community engagement we deliver along the coastline.
A consistent theme across clubs and branches in lifesaving is a focus on growth, pathways and opportunities for our future leaders. Our youth act as a key pillar in maintaining and strengthening our role in the community into the future.
