Trailblazers March to Celebrate Women in Surf Life Saving

On International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March, some of Surf Life Saving’s pioneering women formed a ‘Colour Party’ and led the official March Past at the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships at Swansea Belmont SLSC. They marched to recognise the contribution women have made to the Surf Life Saving movement throughout its 113-year history.​

Despite receiving a call from the President of Surf Life Saving Australia to say he had been bestowed one of the highest volunteer honours in the organisation, Life Membership, Col Laing was up early and on the beach today to compete in the 2020 NSW Masters Championships at Swansea Belmont SLSC.

Lifesavers with Pride Push the Float Out

It has been a huge month for Lifesavers with Pride (LWP). The group has just been announced as the “Principal Float” in Saturday’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and this week it was announced that LWP helped to forge a new partnership between Surf Life Saving Australia and ACON Health’s Pride in Sport Program.

Aussie Lifesavers Support New Gaza Surf Club

The Palestinian territory of Gaza isn’t well known for its beaches. Its association with the Australian Surf Life Saving movement, however, dates back to World War II and two Gazan surf lifesavers are determined to set up a new Gaza Beach Surf Lifesaving Club - with the assistance of North Steyne SLSC in Manly and the Gaza Surf Project.

Michele Bootes – Bega Valley Shire Citizen of the Year

This coming Australia Day, January 26, volunteer surf lifesaver Michele Bootes will be awarded the Bega Valley Shire Citizen of the Year Award for her outstanding contribution to Surf Life Saving and for establishing important inclusivity programs for people living with disability on the NSW Far South Coast.
