Surf Life Saving NSW made a huge impression at the 2023 NSW Community Sport Awards, held at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta on 29 June, taking out two categories while also seeing a Sydney Northern Beaches member recognised for four decades of passionate service.

Indeed, the night culminated with the announcement of several Distinguished Long Service awards, of which North Narrabeen SLSC’s Maureen Worth was a recipient. Maureen has devoted enormous time and energy supporting sport competition in NSW over the last 40 years and has been a significant contributor to the successful delivery of the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships for many years.

The awards, presented by Sport NSW, are an opportunity to recognise not just distinguished service, but also outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW – largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.

SLSNSW’s integration of the LiveHeats technology into surf sports picked up the gong for Innovation of the Year, being used across almost 80 events to date last season in NSW and logistically improving the marshalling and result processing aspects of major events including the State Championships.

Meanwhile, North Cronulla SLSC’s Open Female Beach Relay Team of Lucy Flanagan, Emily, Leah and Alex Rampoldi, were joint winners of the prestigious Community Team of the Year category.
