The state’s best pool rescue swimmers have been selected to compete at the 2017 Interstate Pool Rescue Championships in Adelaide next month.

Surf lifesavers from across the state took advantage of the late winter sunshine to contest the 2016 NSW Board Riding Championships on the Central Coast last weekend.

Over the next three weekends, surf lifesavers will be going back to school to gain an understanding of the skills required to sweep a surfboat.

Surf Life Saving NSW is pleased to confirm the athletes selected for the 2016 Junior Development Academy to be held at Sydney Academy of Sport on Sydney’s Northern Beaches next month.

After packing the essential swimmers, goggles, training equipment and passports, the NSW U18 Pool Rescue Development team even had room in their luggage for optimism as they gathered at Sydney International Airport on Wednesday morning for their flight to New Zealand.

While their peers are relaxing during the school holiday break, a group of the state’s most promising ocean competitors traded books for swimsuits at an intensive camp designed to improve their skills and give an early insight into the life of an elite surf sport athlete.

National pride was on the line last weekend as NSW's most gifted Under 18 Pool Rescue athletes battled it out against New Zealand's best surf lifesavers at the 2016 New Zealand Pool Championships.

Congratulations to the 29 athletes who have been selected for the 2016 Senior Performance Academy to be held next month at the Sydney Academy of Sport.
